The newest version of the Eleven Dynamics Automation Suite (EDAS), EDAS 4.0, focuses on real-world performance, stability, and user experience, making it the most advanced and reliable version to date.
One of the most noticeable upgrades in EDAS 4.0 is its enhanced system stability. Restarting or swapping sensors and robots now runs seamlessly, ensuring smooth operation even in complex setups. According to our engineers, Anton and Max, this improvement was a key focus area:
“The new validation logic, faster mesh handling, and improved compatibility make EDAS more stable than ever.”
— Anton, Applications Engineer at Eleven Dynamics
EDAS 4.0 brings improved backward compatibility through updated SDKs and extended LMF support. Additionally, the updated SDK now includes full integration for the new ATS 800 tracker, ensuring both current and future hardware works smoothly with EDAS.
“It’s always annoying when you install an update and your project suddenly stops working. We wanted to make sure that doesn’t happen with EDAS” explains Max, Software Engineer at Eleven Dynamics.
Handling 3D mesh data is now significantly faster. With optimized import and export processes, EDAS 4.0 can process files up to 2.8 GB, whether in STL, PCD, or PLY formats. This improvement is especially valuable for users working on large-scale metrology projects where efficiency and precision are critical.
With EDAS 4.0, the ABB robot integration is officially finalized. The communication between EDAS and ABB robots is now stable, consistent, and ready for full production use, as connection drops and synchronization issues have been eliminated.
EDAS 4.0 introduces a redesigned and more logical interface. All essential functions, from alignment to metrology and robot control, are now accessible from one unified workspace.
Automation processes often rely on complex conditional logic. The new deep validation system in EDAS 4.0 ensures that every possible condition and “if-else” path within a program is thoroughly checked. This guarantees safer and more reliable operation, even when real-world parameters change unexpectedly.
“It’s crucial to validate every possible branch of logic,” says Max. “A missed condition can lead to collisions or unexpected behavior.”
