Wagon Automotive required a highly accurate, automated system that could handle real-time measurement of complex parts in a flexible and efficient way. Manual systems and older coordinate measuring machines were no longer suitable, especially with increasing pressure to reduce calibration, maintenance, and downtime. The goal was to integrate a system into the production environment that could manage the task without compromising on precision.
Eleven Dynamics delivered a complete measurement solution consisting of a KUKA robot, the Leica Absolute Scanner AS1 with the AT960 tracker, a turntable, and EDAS software. This setup allowed Wagon Automotive to perform inline measurement with absolute values, improving both speed and usability. The EDAS software was praised by operators for its intuitive programming and flexibility when working with CAD data. The system also enabled easier planning of robot paths and reduced the need to work directly with coordinates.
Wagon Automotive saw immediate improvements in flexibility and efficiency. The automated cell could scan a broad range of parts, including those that had previously been difficult to measure. The integration of the turntable helped optimize travel paths and reduce cycle times. Support from Eleven Dynamics was fast and reliable throughout the project. The system reduced calibration and maintenance costs significantly and proved to be a scalable solution for future layouts. Wagon Automotive is already planning to replace outdated measuring arms with similar robot-based systems using EDAS.
As one of Eleven Dynamics’ early-stage customers, Wagon Automotive played a key role in improving the EDAS software and automation processes. The successful deployment of this flexible, inline measurement solution marks a step forward in automated metrology and sets the foundation for future expansion within Wagon’s production lines.
